The American film director, screenwriter, and actor Woody Allen has been added to the database of the Ukrainian website Mirotvorec (translated as "Peacemaker"). According to the Russian news agency TASS and confirmed by other sources, the reason is alleged "public support for Russian aggression."
The Mirotvorec website was launched in 2014 and has been repeatedly criticized by human rights organizations. It illegally collects and publishes personal data of individuals from politics, culture, and media, who, according to the website's administrators, have violated Ukrainian laws or supported actions by Russia. The list includes people who, for example, visited Crimea after its annexation, traveled to the Donbas region without Kyiv's permission, or publicly expressed views that the website's creators consider hostile to Ukraine.
In the past, the Mirotvorec website has included a number of internationally known figures, such as the French actor Gérard Depardieu, the American musician Steven Seagal, and the director Oliver Stone. Critics point out that the publication of addresses, phone numbers, and other personal data puts the individuals concerned at risk of physical assault or harassment. Human rights organizations, including the United Nations, have repeatedly called on Ukraine to abolish the database.
The project's administrators claim that their goal is to "protect the national security of Ukraine."
Woody Allen has not yet publicly commented on the matter. The controversial New York filmmaker, who has won four Academy Awards, joins a list of Western artists who have found themselves at the center of disputes over culture, politics, and war. The news has attracted attention not only from the media but also from the film community, which highlights the increasing connection between art and geopolitical conflicts.
