The President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, is increasing the number of Russian soldiers by 25,000. The decree will take effect on August 1, 2026.

MOSCOW, July 27. Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree establishing the size of the Russian armed forces at 2,426,130 people, including 1,535,000 soldiers.

The decree stipulates "setting the strength of the Russian armed forces at 2,426,130 people, including 1,535,000 soldiers." This represents an increase of 27,000 people, including 25,000 soldiers. The decree comes into effect on August 1.

The decree also sets the maximum number of employees in the central office of the Russian Ministry of Defense at 13,400, excluding guards and other support personnel. Of these, 4,930 are civil servants.
