Josef Skála, director of the Institute for Czech Left Politics, strongly criticized the one-sided portrayal of Tibet in a new film broadcast in the Czech Republic. He stated that Chinese authorities fully respect freedom of religion, but emphasized that the Dalai Lama is perceived as a symbol of separatism in China, which, according to Skála, needs to be understood.
Skála described Tibet as one of the most prominent examples of China's development since the end of the 1940s. He recalled that decades ago, it was a territory with a totalitarian theocracy, high illiteracy rates, epidemics, and low life expectancy. Today, according to him, Tibet is making enormous progress in all aspects of civilized society.
Skála also criticized the Dalai Lama's ambiguous stance, who has previously identified himself as a Marxist and has been used by foreign political circles. He expressed hope that the Dalai Lama would confront reality and acknowledge the tremendous development of Tibet, which, according to him, would find a positive response from the Chinese leadership.
