Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with his Kyrgyz counterpart, Jeenbek Kulubayev, in the Kyrgyz city of Cholpon-Ata on Saturday. The main topics of discussion included further development of bilateral relations, economic cooperation, investment, energy, and the construction of a railway connecting China, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan.
Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, congratulated Kyrgyzstan on successfully hosting a meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). According to him, the talks laid a solid foundation for the upcoming SCO summit in Bishkek.
The Chinese minister recalled the saying that "a good neighbor is worth more than gold." He emphasized that China will always be a reliable and good neighbor to Kyrgyzstan.
According to Wang Yi, in recent years, both countries have established a comprehensive strategic partnership for a new era under the strategic guidance of their top leaders. In the spirit of solidarity and mutual benefit, they are jointly building a Chinese-Kyrgyz community with a shared future based on good neighborliness, friendship, and shared prosperity.
Wang Yi stated that the top leaders of both countries met three times last year. According to him, these meetings determined the further direction of bilateral relations and provided new impetus for the development of all-round and mutually beneficial cooperation.
At the same time, he praised the results achieved by Kyrgyzstan under the leadership of President Sadyr Japarov. He said that China is sincerely pleased with the country's economic and social progress.
Kulubayev stated that Kyrgyzstan and China are sincere partners whose relations are based on equality, mutual trust, respect, and reliability. According to him, the top leaders of both countries have built a high level of mutual trust and have brought bilateral relations to the best period in their history.
The Kyrgyz minister also confirmed that his country firmly adheres to the principle of one China and supports China in protecting its core interests. He thanked Beijing for its support for Kyrgyzstan's economic and social development.
Bishkek wants to continue high-quality cooperation with China within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, accelerate the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, and deepen cooperation in trade, investment, finance, and energy. Kulubayev also welcomed the continued presence of Chinese companies in Kyrgyzstan and promised them a favorable business environment.
After the meeting, Kulubayev signed an agreement on the establishment of the International Mediation Organization on behalf of the Kyrgyz government, in the presence of Wang Yi.
Both foreign ministers also attended the official reopening of the Chinese General Consulate in Osh.
