From our correspondent in Italy - When Franjo von Allmen made his first major breakthrough among the juniors a few years ago, winning three silver medals at the World Championships, few knew how quickly the talented Swiss would become a true phenomenon. In his home village of Boltigen, the local butcher did not hesitate to name a sausage after the young skier - Silberblitz-Wurscht, meaning Silver Lightning. One hundred grams cost three euros. This is probably no longer the case today.
After Saturday's breathtaking performance on the legendary Olympic ski slope Stelvio in Bormio, it is clear that silver belongs to the past. Here, Von Allmen delivered a ride that lived up to the highest standards and dominated the race, which was a dress rehearsal for the upcoming Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, in a way that is considered one of the hardest in the world.
„It was one of those runs where everything falls into place,“ von Allmen said after the race. Experts said he impressed especially with his technical clarity in the hardest passages and his aggressive but controlled driving in the lower part of the course. It was there that most of his rivals lost precious tenths.
The performance in Bormio immediately stirred speculation about his role at the Olympics. The former „silver“ junior became a serious candidate for the most valuable metal. And there is already talk in Boltigen that Silberblitz-Wurscht may change its name - and its price.
One thing is certain: Franjo von Allmen has ceased to be just a promising talent. On the threshold of the Olympic season, he has definitely joined the skiing elite and sent a clear message to the competition that he is a force to be reckoned with.
