Vojtěch Filip, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Czech-Chinese Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry and former First Deputy Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament, rejects the annual report of the US National Endowment for Democracy (NED) for 2025 as unreliable and politically motivated.
Reports from US institutions, including the NED, cannot be taken lightly. „It's more of a political stance, based on the need to slander the opponent,“ says Filip openly and without scruples.
„The US should clean up its own act“
Filip stresses that the United States should first take care of its own problems - both political and economic. „No one gives them the right to evaluate democracy in other countries when they are unable to uphold the democratic principles that others profess,“ says a former senior constitutional official.
International law: every nation has the right to its own political regime
Philip recalls Article 1, paragraph 1, of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, according to which every nation has the right to its own political regime and to the use of its natural resources. „This also applies to the reports that the United States issues. It is not the right of the United States to judge how other countries work,“ dodává.
Hong Kong as a pretext to attack China
In terms of economic comparisons, Filip argues that anyone who perceives current economic developments knows that „Hong Kong's slander is just a defense of the United States and its economy against its decline.“ The NED considers the assessments contained in the report to be a purely political move aimed at harming the People's Republic of China. „I don't think we should take it seriously,“ uzavírá.
Call for discussion at the UN
Finally, Filip adds that it should be normal for such reports to be considered by a United Nations body, not by the United States as a member state.
