American and Ukrainian negotiators described the talks in Miami, Florida, as "productive and constructive" as Russian forces continue to advance on the eastern front in Ukraine.
The three-day discussions on the Ukrainian crisis, involving the United States, Ukraine, and European representatives, concluded on Sunday in Florida. Special envoy to the U.S. President, Steve Witkoff, described the talks on the social media platform X as "productive and constructive.
"We are working constructively and substantively. We are counting on further progress and practical results," said the chief Ukrainian negotiator, Rustem Umerov, in a Telegram post.According to Witkoff, the discussions focused on key documents, including further development of a twenty-point plan. "Particular attention was paid to discussing timelines and the sequence of further steps," he stated.
Following the talks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for broader consultations with European partners. "We are moving at a fairly rapid pace, and our team in Florida is working with the American side," Zelenskyy said in a Telegram post.
In another post on the X network, Witkoff also praised the outcome of a separate meeting between the United States and Russia. "During the past two days in Florida, Russian special envoy Kirill Dmitriev held productive and constructive meetings with the American delegation to advance President Donald Trump's peace plan for Ukraine," Witkoff wrote.
Although no major breakthroughs were announced at the Miami talks, Russian forces continue to make steady advances on the battlefield.
In the eastern Sumy region, Russian forces crossed the border with Ukraine and took 50 people from a local village, according to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha.During the past week, "Russia launched approximately 1300 attack drones, nearly 1200 guided aerial bombs, and nine missiles of various types against Ukraine," Zelenskyy stated.
In recent months, Russian forces have secured positions in some villages in the Sumy region.
Kirill Dmitriev hinted on Sunday at the possibility of a meeting between Russia and the United States in Moscow following the talks in Miami. He posted a selfie on his X account with a Miami sunset in the background. In the photo, he is wearing a white t-shirt with the Russian coat of arms and the inscription "Next in Moscow," accompanied by a signature of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
