BUCHAREST, July 27. Romania has expelled a Russian diplomat after the Romanian air force shot down three drones in its airspace over three days, with Bucharest claiming that the drones were Russian, according to a statement from the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to the ministry, Russian Ambassador Vladimir Lipaev was summoned in connection with "repeated violations of Romania's airspace between July 24 and July 26, when the Romanian army shot down three drones that entered the country without permission."
The Romanian side lodged a "strong protest" with the head of the Russian diplomatic mission. He also received a verbal note demanding that one of the Russian diplomats leave the country within five days. Romania has also recalled its ambassador from Moscow to Bucharest for consultations.
