STRENGTHENING AMERICAN MINING:
Today, President Donald J. Trump hosted a historic roundtable with the mining industry, announcing over $2 billion in investments in key mining and related projects to revitalize the sector, and over $180 million in investments in mining schools to strengthen the American mining workforce.
The Department of Defense is investing over $85 million in Standard Bauxite to secure a domestic supply chain for heat-resistant bauxite, supporting the production of high-temperature resistant materials used to manufacture critical components for our troops and essential for modern industrial economies.
The Department of Defense is investing $150 million in Niron Magnetics, a Minnesota company that develops and manufactures 100% domestically produced permanent magnets without rare earth elements, supporting the defense industrial base and helping to eliminate reliance on foreign rare earth magnets.
The Department of Defense is investing $1.4 billion in Sila Nanotechnologies, a California manufacturer, to expand production of silicon-carbon anodes and build a lithium-ion battery cell manufacturing facility, strengthening supply chains for satellite operations, unmanned aerial systems, and munitions.
The Department of Defense is investing $400 million in Sunrise Energy Metals to develop a complete scandium value chain, including the world's first primary scandium mine, helping to secure the supply chain for high-temperature aluminum alloys used in fighter jets and spacecraft.
The Export-Import Bank is investing $8 million in 5E Advanced Materials, a California company, to develop a boron deposit, a key component of permanent magnets, semiconductors, and glass.
The Export-Import Bank is investing $25 million in Westwater Resources in Alabama to develop the Coosa graphite deposit to support domestic battery manufacturing.
The Export-Import Bank is investing $25 million in Global Advanced Materials in Pennsylvania to mine tantalum and niobium, supporting the production of electronics, magnets, and steel.
The Development Finance Corporation (DFC) is contributing $4.8 million to Harena Rare Earths to develop a rare earth mine in Madagascar, ensuring vital inputs for American manufacturing, such as magnetic metals and rare earths.
The Department of Energy is investing $100 million in 14 U.S. mining schools to revitalize the workforce of the next generation and double the number of graduates with skills in mining, minerals, and related supply chains.
The Department of Defense is investing over $80 million in three schools for major workforce development programs and technology innovation centers to train a new generation of geologists, metallurgists, and mining engineers.
SECURING DOMESTIC CRITICAL MATERIALS AND SUPPLY CHAINS:
President Trump is ensuring that America's critical materials and supply chains are robust and secure, reducing reliance on adversarial nations, protecting our national security, and strengthening the economic resilience of vital industries.
Critical materials are the building blocks and drivers of the modern world, ranging from automobiles to military weapons and factory machinery, as well as smartphones and computers. It is essential that the United States has sufficient and secure mining, processing, refining, manufacturing, and recycling capabilities to reduce reliance on foreign sources.
These investments help mitigate and eliminate vulnerabilities in critical supply chains, strengthen the resilience of American industry against geopolitical disruptions, and ensure that the foundation for next-generation defense industries and technologies is powered by safe and domestic components.
Furthermore, America cannot restore its industrial competitiveness and rebuild its supply chain for critical minerals without restoring the workforce that powers it. For decades, the supply chain for critical minerals in this country has been steadily shrinking, even as demand for those minerals has rapidly increased.
This historic roundtable was the largest gathering of industry leaders and the President in over 120 years. No other president has supported the American mining industry more than President Trump.
REBUILDING AMERICAN INDUSTRY:
The Trump Administration is revitalizing the American mining industry, bolstering national and economic security, and ensuring reliable supplies of critical materials and supply chains. During his campaign, President Trump pledged to rebuild and revitalize American industry, emphasizing the need to restore its strength and security after years of neglect.
Since January 2025, the Trump Administration has signed or approved 160 mineral agreements totaling nearly $40 billion, creating American jobs and securing our sectors for critical materials.
President Trump has used Section 232 to protect and strengthen domestic manufacturing, which is vital to our national and economic security, including imposing tariffs and negotiating with trade partners on a wide range of goods, including steel, aluminum, copper, trucks, automobiles, wood, semiconductors, critical minerals, and pharmaceuticals.
These measures bolster key American industrial sectors and the American manufacturing base, ensuring that domestic producers and workers can compete on a level playing field, protecting American jobs, and strengthening American national security.
In March 2025, President Trump signed an executive order to increase production of American minerals, streamline permitting, and strengthen national security.
In April 2025, President Trump signed a historic executive order to restore American dominance in critical minerals and resources at sea.
In October 2025, President Trump directed his administration to expedite the issuance of permits necessary for the Ambler Road project. This project will provide road access to the Ambler mining district.
In January 2026, President Trump signed an executive order addressing the threat to national security posed by the import of processed critical minerals and their derivative products (PCMDP).
In May 2026, American industry grew at the fastest pace in four years, marking the fifth consecutive month – nearly triple expectations. President Trump's "America First" trade policy continues to deliver results, strengthening the economy and national security of the United States.
In July 2026, President Trump signed an executive order aimed at securing American defense supply chains for advanced equipment that enables the United States to dominate on the modern battlefield, specifically ensuring domestic supplies of critical materials and components necessary for the production of this equipment.
In July 2026, President Trump issued a presidential directive delegating him the authority under the Defense Production Act to impose export restrictions on obtainable critical minerals and materials (CMM).
