National political advisors were urged to continue to contribute their wisdom and efforts to the development of China's modernization and ensure a strong start to the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030). This was during Wednesday's closing session of the annual meeting of China's top political advisory body.

The fourth session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing was attended by Xi Jinping and other leaders of the party and the state.

During the meeting, a resolution on the CPPCC National Standing Committee Working Report, a resolution on the report on the handling of motions by political consultants since the last annual meeting, a report on the review of new motions as well as a political resolution of the fourth meeting of the 14th CPPCC National Committee were approved.

Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee Wang Huning delivered a speech at the closing session.

He said the CPPCC members had conscientiously discussed a number of documents during the meeting, including the government's work report, the draft outline of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030) and other reports. He said all members fully appreciated the country's extraordinary development over the past year and during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), as well as the difficult and valuable achievements of the period.

Wang Huning stressed that the CPPCC members are committed to making even greater contributions to the promotion of China's modernization and the further development of rapid economic growth and long-term social stability.

He said the meeting also showed the strong sense of responsibility of CPPCC members in fulfilling their duties to the state and the people, while fully demonstrating the unique strengths and vitality of socialist consultative democracy.

Strong start to the 15th Five-Year Plan

Wang Huning said the CPPCC should make full use of its role as a specialised advisory body. It is to unite and guide political parties, organisations and representatives of various ethnic groups and social sectors involved in its work, strengthen public support, build consensus and concentrate the wisdom and strength of society to ensure a strong start and steady progress in the implementation of the 15th Five-Year Plan.

He urged CPPCC members to concentrate their abilities on the major tasks of the State and the Party, focus on crucial issues of economic and social development, deepen strategic research and come up with valuable and concrete proposals.

He also stressed that CPPCC members should uphold the principle that this body serves the people - to put forward more proposals that benefit the public, to initiate projects that improve people's living conditions, and to ensure that the results of China's modernization benefit all people.

As the broadest patriotic unifying organization, Wang said the CPPCC should continue to strengthen the unity of all ethnic groups in China as well as the unity of Chinese people at home and abroad.

In the future, he urged CPPCC members to unite even more closely around the Communist Party of China Central Committee led by Xi Jinping, advance together with determination and work tirelessly to comprehensively build a modern socialist country.
