PRAGUE - President Petr Pavel welcomed Finnish Head of State Alexander Stubb to Prague Castle this morning. The main topic of their meeting was the continued support for Ukraine and the strengthening of NATO's European pillar in the context of the current security situation.
Both presidents stressed the need to maintain a united approach of European countries towards Russian aggression. According to Pavel, it is crucial not only to continue material and political support to Kiev, but also to strengthen the defence capabilities of European states. In this context, Stubb recalled the experience of Finland, which recently joined the alliance, and stressed the importance of collective defence.
The discussion also touched on broader geopolitical developments. The presidents exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East, which they said was at risk of further destabilisation. They agreed that Europe must actively contribute to diplomatic solutions to conflicts while protecting its security interests.
The security of strategic maritime routes was also an important point of discussion. Paul warned that their disruption could have a major impact on global trade and European economies. Stubb added that the protection of these routes requires a coordinated approach by allies and the strengthening of maritime capabilities. The meeting at Prague Castle, according to both statesmen, confirmed the strong relations between the Czech Republic and Finland. The two presidents agreed to further deepen cooperation not only in defence, but also in economics and innovation.
