A New Uzbekistan – A New Strategic Partnership
In recent years, Uzbekistan has undergone significant changes in its foreign policy. The country's engagement on the international stage, its involvement in regional and global issues, and its influence within international organizations have all increased considerably. Within this process, relations between Uzbekistan and the United States hold a special place. Historically, cooperation between the two countries has gone through various phases. However, it can now be stated with certainty that a new era of strategic partnership has begun.
This progress is largely due to the proactive and constructive foreign policy of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and his consistent efforts towards internal reforms based on openness and modernization. His strategy, based on transparency and engagement, has generated significant interest and support, both within Uzbekistan and abroad. The United States, as one of Uzbekistan's key partners, actively supports these changes and is clearly striving to expand cooperation in all areas.
President Mirziyoyev's participation in the summit marking the 80th anniversary of the United Nations in New York this year is significant not only for Uzbekistan's activities within the UN, but also as an opportunity to elevate bilateral relations with the United States to a new level.

The President on a High-Level Platform
The President's address to the UN General Assembly once again reflects Uzbekistan's position on key global issues. Global security, the Sustainable Development Goals, the fight against climate change, and the reform of the international financial architecture are among the most pressing issues shaping the future of humanity. The Uzbek leader's address from this high-level forum confirms the country's active role and growing global responsibility.
However, the significance of this visit extends beyond the speech itself. Bilateral meetings and strategic agreements reached during the summit have opened a new chapter in relations between Uzbekistan and the United States.
A Historic Agreement with Boeing
One of the highlights of the visit was the meeting between President Mirziyoyev and Brendan Nelson, President of Boeing Global. The agreement to purchase 22 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft is of historical significance for Uzbekistan's aviation sector. The total value of the transaction is estimated at $8 billion.
This move not only modernizes the Uzbekistan Airways fleet, but also represents a significant step towards integrating the country into global transportation logistics. The firm order for 14 aircraft and an option for 8 more forms the basis for long-term cooperation. The first deliveries are planned for 2031.

The positive reaction of former U.S. President Donald Trump to this agreement, and his warm congratulations to President Mirziyoyev, underscore the growing political and economic confidence between the two countries.
In recent years, one of the main directions of Uzbekistan's foreign policy has been active participation on the global stage and recognition by the international community as a responsible partner. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's regular participation in the UN General Assembly sessions and the initiatives he presents there have become a symbol of reforms in the country's foreign policy. Through his speeches, Mirziyoyev advocates for Tashkent's voice as a champion of democratic renewal, human rights, gender equality, the interests of youth, and environmental security.
However, diplomatic activity is not limited solely to political initiatives. It is developing in close connection with the economic dimension of international cooperation.
Therefore, the situation can be analyzed from two perspectives. Firstly, the agreement has strategic importance for Uzbekistan. Modernizing the national airline fleet will help transform the country into a regional aviation hub, which will support the influx of tourists and investments. At the same time, this large agreement strengthens Uzbekistan's image as an open economy, integrated into international financial markets, and a reliable partner.
Secondly, this agreement also has significant geoeconomic importance for the United States. For Boeing, the multi-billion dollar contract provides a strong stimulus for domestic production and the job market. Furthermore, Washington gains an opportunity to strengthen its influence in Central Asia and lay the foundation for a strategic partnership with Tashkent.
Together, Mirziyoyev's initiatives from the UN tribune and the major agreement with Boeing demonstrate a new model of Uzbekistan's foreign policy: strengthening international prestige through global diplomacy and achieving practical results through strategic economic agreements. These two directions, in harmony, are shaping a new image of the country.
Today, Tashkent promotes the ideas of peace, enlightenment, and sustainable development on the international stage, while in the economic sphere, it is involved in global processes through major agreements and investment cooperation. The uniqueness of Mirziyoyev's foreign policy style lies in his ability to harmoniously combine political initiatives with tangible economic results.
Therefore, the voice from the UN tribune and the agreement on Dreamliners with the United States represent a common goal: building a new global identity for Uzbekistan and strengthening its growing influence in international relations.
Financial Architecture and Reforms
Another significant step was the meeting between President Mirziyoyev and the Managing Director of the IMF, Kristalina Georgieva. Georgieva described Uzbekistan's reforms as irreversible and assured of the Fund's strong support for the country's transformation agenda.
Thanks to cooperation with the IMF, Uzbekistan is achieving concrete results in strengthening macroeconomic stability, improving tax administration, and reforming the budget system. These measures enhance the country's financial resilience and create a more reliable environment for investors.
Dialogue with Leading American Companies
During the visit, a series of meetings were held with major American companies and research institutions. Among them:
• Traxys – a project portfolio worth $1 billion was created in the field of geological exploration and mining. A roadmap was signed to introduce advanced technologies in the extraction and processing of minerals.
• FLSmidth, McKinsey, Go Green Partners and others discussed opportunities to expand strategic cooperation.
• The combined capitalization of these companies exceeds $20 billion, which opens up significant opportunities for the Uzbek economy.
In addition, the President met with Adebayo Ogunlesi, the CEO of BlackRock. With over $11 trillion in assets under management, BlackRock is one of the largest financial institutions in the world. The discussions focused on expanding cooperation in the areas of energy, transportation, and water infrastructure development.
Engagement with the Global Financial Elite
President Mirziyoyev also met with Ajay Banga, President of the World Bank Group; John Dugan, Chairman of Citigroup; Jenny Johnson, President and CEO of Franklin Templeton; Cathinka Wahlstrom, Head of Trading at BNY; and Brian Friedman, President of Jefferies.
These meetings demonstrated strong interest from American financial markets and leading investment corporations in the Uzbek economy. Agreements on specific areas of cooperation and the establishment of joint working groups will contribute to the country's sustainable economic development. Conclusion – A Step into a New Era
