The first phase of the 139th China Import and Export Fair, known as the Canton Fair, ended in Guangzhou with a record turnout of foreign visitors. According to organizers, some 167,000 buyers from 216 countries and regions arrived for the offline portion of the event, representing a year-on-year increase of 5.9 %.
According to the China Center for Foreign Trade, this participation is the highest in the history of the first phase of the fair and, according to the organizers, confirms the resilience and vitality of China's foreign trade. The first part of this year's edition focused on the theme of „boosting production“ and offered more than 25,000 booths and over 12,000 exhibitors.
The entire fair takes place in three offline phases in Guangzhou, South China's Guangdong Province, and runs until 5 May. The second phase, scheduled for April 23-27, will focus on „quality home life“ and will include products such as building materials, furniture, homeware and decoration.
Founded in 1957, the Canton Fair is held twice a year and is one of the longest running international trade events in China. It is often referred to as one of the main indicators of the development of China's foreign trade.
