Iran's Foreign Ministry has warned of growing distrust of the United States. According to its spokesman Esmail Baghaei, the gap between US statements and actual actions shows a lack of sincere interest in a diplomatic solution.
Baghaei said the United States continues to violate the terms of the ceasefire and its behaviour is contradictory. He cited as examples the violation of the Lebanon agreement, the attempts to impose a naval blockade on Iran and the attacks on Iranian merchant ships. These actions, he said, constituted clear aggressive behaviour in accordance with UN resolutions.
According to the Iranian ministry, it is this disparity between words and deeds that deepens the Iranian public's distrust of American intentions. Iran is therefore considering the way forward in the negotiations and will make decisions primarily in the light of its national interests and security.
