Kazakh engineering enterprises provide jobs for 118 thousand Kazakhs

At the Cabinet meeting, the Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development of Kazakhstan briefed Prime Minister Alikhan Smilov on the development of engineering in Kazakhstan.

Marat Karabaev said in the report that the share of engineering in the structure of the manufacturing industry today reaches 13 %. There are now 3.8 thousand enterprises operating in the sector, providing employment for more than 118 thousand people.

"Of the manufacturing industries, engineering is developing most dynamically. Over the last 5 years, the sector has grown 2.3 times in real terms, with the largest growth in the automotive industry - 4.7 times. While the average growth rate of the manufacturing industry over these years was 4.5 %, the engineering industry showed a growth rate of 17.6 %. This trend continues in 2023: the index of physical volume in 6 months reached 128.8 %, products worth 1.8 trillion tenge were produced, which is 38 % more than in the same period of 2022," Marat Karabaev said.
He added that volumes will continue to increase as existing production facilities gradually reach capacity.

Approximately $500 million of direct investment has been attracted into the engineering industry by the end of 2022, a record. USD 1.5 billion of direct investment, a record amount. To further the qualitative growth of the sector, on the orders of the Head of State, the MoIIR RK has drafted a Comprehensive Engineering Development Plan for the period 2024-2028, detailing major tasks such as improving basic conditions by providing manufacturers with raw materials, developing human resources and R&D potential, promoting domestic products by stimulating product sales, improving the system of technical regulation, etc.

"Systematic implementation of the comprehensive plan will ensure a systematic approach to the long-term development of the industry. The document envisages the achievement of the following target indicators by 2028: a 2.2-fold increase in the volume of production and exports to $5.7 billion, a 1.1-fold increase in labour productivity, a 1.2-fold increase in exports to $8.5 billion." By 2028, the ministry plans to implement 151 projects worth 1.7 trillion tenge and create more than 24,000 new jobs. Of these, 29 projects worth 217 billion tenge are expected to be implemented in 2023.

Among the projects planned for the near future are the production of household appliances and elevators, aluminum wheel rims and components for railway trains, drilling rigs and agricultural machinery, towers and blades for wind turbines, and Changan, Haval, Chery and Exeed automobiles.
