At a regular press conference on 19 March, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian stressed that the Taiwan issue is entirely an internal Chinese matter. In his words, its resolution should be decided by the Chinese people alone, without any interference from outside forces.

At the same time, he urged the United States to consistently respect the one-China principle and the three Sino-US joint communiqués. In relation to Taiwan, he said, the US side should proceed with caution and restraint to avoid further escalation of tensions.

Lin Jian also criticized the approach of some American institutions and individuals. He said they should abandon ideological prejudices and Cold War thinking based on the zero-sum principle. He also called for a rethinking of the perception of China and an end to the spread of the so-called „China threat“ narrative.
