Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun addressed a regular press conference on the issue of energy security and possible coordination among the G7 countries in releasing emergency oil reserves.
One journalist asked about reports that G7 finance ministers might discuss a joint release of strategic oil reserves in coordination with the International Energy Agency.
Guo Jiakun commented that it is advisable to contact the relevant Chinese authorities on specific issues. He also stressed that energy security is crucial for the stability of the world economy.
He said all parties have a responsibility to ensure that the energy supply is stable and uninterrupted. China will therefore take the necessary measures to ensure the country's own energy security, he said.
