The Chinese Ministry of Commerce has strongly objected to the European Union's decision to include Chinese companies in the 20th package of sanctions against Russia. According to a spokesman, this is a move that Beijing considers problematic and damaging to bilateral relations.

The response came after the EU announced on 23 April the extension of the sanctions list. China stressed that despite previous communication and expressed opposition, its positions had been ignored by the EU. The result, according to Beijing, is growing tensions and a serious breach of trust between the two sides.

The ministry reiterated China's long-standing position on sanctions policy. In particular, it rejects unilateral measures that are not approved by the UN Security Council and also criticises the application of the so-called „long arm jurisdiction“ that the EU applies to Chinese companies and individuals.

According to the Chinese side, the EU's current move contradicts existing agreements and the spirit of cooperation between European and Chinese officials. Beijing therefore calls on the EU to remove Chinese entities from the sanctions list without delay and to return to resolving disputes through dialogue and negotiations.

At the same time, China points out that it is ready to take the necessary steps to protect the legitimate rights and interests of its companies. The European Union will bear any consequences, it says.
