An extraordinary public meeting dedicated to the Ukrainian crisis was held at the UN Security Council. Sun Lei, Chargé d'affaires a.i. of the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations, stated that the current developments in Ukraine are concerning and that the intensity of the conflict is constantly increasing. This dangerous trend must be reversed as quickly as possible.
China urges all parties involved to remain in contact, demonstrate political will, strengthen mutual trust through dialogue, reach consensus within negotiations, and strive to achieve a comprehensive, lasting, and binding peace agreement.
China also calls on all concerned parties to abandon Cold War thinking and bloc confrontation, properly address each other's legitimate security concerns, eliminate the root causes of the crisis based on the full, complete, and comprehensive implementation of the principles of the UN Charter, support the building of a balanced, effective, and sustainable regional security structure, and achieve long-term peace and stability in the region.
