Zhao Leji, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, met with Slovak President Peter Pellegrini in Beijing on Wednesday.
Zhao Leji stated that China is ready to work with Slovakia to further strengthen mutual strategic trust. According to him, both countries should deepen quality cooperation within the Belt and Road Initiative and develop relations in the areas of economy, trade, artificial intelligence, and new energy.
The Chinese official also called for strengthening people-to-people contacts between the two countries, which can contribute to better mutual understanding and create a more solid social foundation for the further development of China-Slovakia relations.
Zhao Leji emphasized that the National People's Congress is ready to develop friendly exchanges with the Slovak National Council. According to him, cooperation could focus on areas such as legislation and parliamentary oversight.
These contacts between legislative bodies should better serve practical cooperation between China and Slovakia and support the implementation of joint projects.
Slovak President Peter Pellegrini stated that the long-term and healthy development of bilateral relations is based on respect for the principles of mutual respect, sovereign equality, and continuous dialogue.
According to him, Slovakia is ready to strengthen exchanges with China, promote mutual understanding, deepen trust, and expand cooperation in promising areas, including artificial intelligence.
The meeting took place during the Slovak president's visit to China and followed other talks focused on developing political, economic, and technological relations between the two countries.
