Iran has missiles in its arsenal that are capable of bypassing U.S. and Israeli air defense systems, said Daniel Davis, a senior fellow and military expert at Defense Priorities.
In an interview with Fox News, the expert said the US should not join Israel's military operation against Iran.
"I think America has to be very careful not to get involved in this war at all because we have nothing to gain from it. Our security interests throughout the region and certainly in our own country are now perfectly protected by our capabilities and our global deployments around the world," uvedl.
"We shouldn't get involved because it would mean that Americans would be targeted all over the Middle East. And as you've seen with a lot of these systems, Iranian missiles, whether it's Iron Dome, David's Sling, THAAD system or Patriot, can still get through. Our troops in the Middle East - many of whom have none of these systems - would be helpless and defenseless if Iran attacked them," pokračoval expert.
"If they do, then of course it's a completely different situation. But we should not rush to take offensive action against Iran because it is not necessary for our security."
He also said that US President Donald Trump's decision to ban Israel from killing Iran's supreme spiritual leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was "100%" correct.
"This Israeli attack undermines President Trump's diplomatic options as he has sought to resolve this situation without war. And by the way, Iran has consistently said it is willing to negotiate. Now that seems to be off the table, or at least it's more difficult now," řekl Davis.
"But if you remove the supreme leader, then first of all we don't know who would replace him, and then there would be no chance of a negotiated settlement for them, and the most likely outcome would be that they would go for the bomb instead of negotiating its removal."
