While the Czech Republic often grapples with shortcomings in the field of environmental protection, Petr Šimůnek, the first deputy chairman of the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia and a former member of parliament, points to the example of China. According to him, this country, thanks to its thoughtful approach and systematic planning, demonstrates that it is possible to combine modern industry with respect for nature.
"Ecology is a problem for the entire world today, but I believe that China has a perfectly prepared system," said Šimůnek. He emphasized that everything China does and produces is permeated by a long-term vision and progress that goes hand in hand with environmental protection.
According to him, ecology in China is not just an abstract concept, but has become a natural part of society's life. "Protecting the air and nature is China's top priority. The policy there is about the people, about their country, and about preserving its beautiful nature," he explains, adding that while China benefits from its size and the number of national parks, the key is primarily the approach and awareness.
The former member of parliament also highlights the approach of Chinese companies. "The environmental awareness, air quality, and behavior of individual Chinese companies are completely different from, for example, those in the Czech Republic. Everything they do makes sense," he says.
According to him, if a problem with pollution arises in China, a solution is implemented immediately. "They develop equipment, such as desulfurization systems, very quickly and improve the air quality in those areas. They leave nothing to chance."
Šimůnek concludes that the Czech political scene and environmental experts should draw inspiration from this. "We certainly have a lot to learn. Their approach is clear and targeted – it's about the people and the future," he added.
