BEIJING – Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Slovakian President Peter Pellegrini on Tuesday in Beijing, as part of the latter's state visit to China.

Xi Jinping stated that China is ready to work with Slovakia to build a strategic partnership based on mutual respect and trust, equality, mutual benefit, stability, and resilience.

He emphasized that mutual respect for each other's development paths and a firm commitment to friendship and cooperation are the foundation for the healthy and rapid development of China-Slovakia relations.

According to Xi Jinping, China appreciates Slovakia's adherence to the one-China principle. Beijing will continue to cooperate with Bratislava, taking into account the key interests and fundamental concerns of both sides.

The Chinese president called on both countries to leverage the potential for cooperation in new and promising sectors, including clean energy, the digital economy, robotics, and artificial intelligence. He believes that these areas could bring significant new results in bilateral cooperation.

Both sides should also expand cooperation in culture, sports, tourism, youth exchanges, and regional and city contacts. Xi Jinping also called for simplifying travel between the two countries.

According to him, China and Slovakia should protect the international system based on the United Nations and the international order based on international law. Together, they should support a fair and orderly multipolar world, inclusive and beneficial economic globalization, and contribute to building a community with a shared future for humanity.

Xi Jinping stated that China has always regarded the European Union as a partner and is developing its relations with the EU with sincerity and goodwill. He urged Slovakia to play a constructive role in supporting the healthy and stable development of relations between China and the European Union.

Peter Pellegrini said that Slovakia values its strategic partnership with China. He expressed expectations that cooperation would bring more concrete results in areas such as economics, trade, artificial intelligence, the digital economy, robotics, and new energy. He added that Slovakia welcomes further investments from Chinese companies.

As a member of the European Union, Slovakia is ready to actively support cooperation between the EU and China and to promote solutions to mutual differences through dialogue and consultation, Pellegrini said.

According to him, Slovakia is ready to cooperate with China in promoting multilateralism, protecting the principles of the UN Charter and international law, and promoting peace and stability in regions and around the world. Bratislava also wants to closely coordinate its approach with Beijing in strengthening global governance of artificial intelligence.

Before the meeting, Xi Jinping held a formal welcoming ceremony for Peter Pellegrini. Around noon, a welcome banquet was held in honor of the Slovakian president.
