The President of the Republic Petr Pavel and his wife Eva Pavlova visited the South Moravian Region from 26 to 27 September 2023.
During his visit, the President met with representatives of the region and Brno, negotiated with representatives of technology companies and spoke with mayors of municipalities that were hit by a devastating tornado two years ago. Among other things, Mrs Pavlova visited the Danzinger blueprint workshop in Olešnice na Moravě.
At the beginning of his trip, President Pavel met with the Governor of Brno, Jan Grolich, the Mayor of Brno, Markéta Vaňková, and South Moravian councillors. He spoke with them, for example, about the fact that the South Moravian Region is a champion among regions in supporting entrepreneurship, innovation and new technologies. "Which made it the first region in the Czech Republic to win the Business Region of the Year award," řekl prezident.
He mentioned the availability of education for all ages of children and students as another positive aspect of the region. Among the problems, on the other hand, he sees the transport infrastructure and the level of various quality of life parameters in the more remote parts of the region. The issue of drought and the possibility of providing sufficient water for agricultural production all year round was also a topic.
Together with the British Ambassador, President Pavel then unveiled a commemorative plaque of Czech-British cooperation in the Brno Technology Park. He also visited the South Moravian Innovation Centre, where he debated with representatives of promising companies ranging from small start-ups to companies with billions in turnover. "This centre is probably the largest in Central Europe. It can be compared to similar centres in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, for example, and is definitely a place to be inspired to follow," řekl.
On the first day of his trip to the South Moravian Region, he also visited the Punkva Cave and debated with the mayors of municipalities in Blansko. He talked with them, for example, about the unavailability of doctors and dentists. He plans to discuss the problem with Health Minister Vlastimil Válek shortly.
Today, the presidential couple visited Hrušky in the Břeclav region, where they met with mayors of municipalities affected by the June 2021 tornado and representatives of the Integrated Rescue System. The President spoke with them about how the affected municipalities managed to cope with the two-year-old disaster.
At the end of the trip, President Pavel and his wife visited the archaeological site of Hradisko near Mušov and met with winemakers in Dolní Dunajovice. From South Moravia he then headed to the Highlands, where he saw the new Venom and Viper helicopters at the air base in Náměšt' nad Oslavou.
