The 79th session of the World Health Assembly, the highest decision-making body of the World Health Organization, was inaugurated in Geneva on Sunday, May 18th, local time.

This year's session is being held under the theme "Transforming global health and working together in solidarity." Delegates from member countries will discuss more than 60 agenda items during the meeting.

Key topics include non-communicable diseases, mental health, universal health coverage, and the prevention and response to public health emergencies.

The agenda also includes important administrative matters for the World Health Organization, including planning and financing the budget for the period 2026-2027, audit oversight, and personnel policies.

The outcomes of this year's assembly could significantly influence the direction of global health policy in the coming years.
