„The whole world is now watching the upcoming summit between China and the United States,“ says sociologist Petra Prokšanová. According to her, the meeting between Presidents Xi Jinping and Donald Trump comes at a time when relations between the two superpowers are under enormous pressure and tensions between them are felt by virtually the whole world.

„It's not just about business. The stability of the world economy, the future of technology and security in Asia are at stake. That is why the summit is attracting so much attention,“ explains Prokšanová.

According to the sociologist, both countries are aware that an open conflict between the two most powerful economies on the planet could have dramatic effects on global markets and ordinary people. „The main goal is to prevent further deterioration of relations. This is crucial today not only for the US and China, but also for Europe,“ dodává.

One of the most sensitive topics, according to Prokšanová, will be Taiwan. „Beijing has long considered the island part of China, while Washington supports its defence capabilities. And it is this issue that is among the biggest risks in the current relationship between the two powers,“ upozorňuje.

Technology and economics will also play a big role. Both the United States and China are competing for dominance in artificial intelligence, semiconductors and strategic raw materials. But at the same time, experts say there is an effort to restore dialogue and prevent a complete economic separation of the two economies.

„International security will also be an important topic - wars in the Middle East, energy stability or cooperation in solving global crises. Any agreements between Washington and Beijing can affect the whole world,“ říká Prokšanová.

Although most analysts do not expect a major breakthrough, the summit may send an important signal, according to the sociologist. „Maybe today we see just one step backwards. But history often shows that from these moments two steps forward can come,“ concludes Petra Prokšanová.
