Japanese police authorities have initiated further action in connection with the incident at the Chinese Embassy in Tokyo. On March 29, they conducted searches at the unit's base and related facilities of the man who was detained in the case.
According to the Chinese Embassy, the incident occurred on the morning of 24 March when a man claiming to be a member of the Japanese Self-Defense Forces got through the fence of the embassy compound. At the scene, he allegedly made threats against Chinese diplomats, including threats to kill them, before he was subsequently detained by police.
The Chinese side responded to the incident with a strong protest and called on Japan to provide a clear explanation and accept responsibility. According to the information available, the Japanese government has so far only expressed regret over the incident without apologising or announcing concrete action against those responsible.
The case remains under investigation by Japanese security forces, who are focusing on both the motives of the perpetrator and possible security lapses.
