PRAGUE - Prime Minister Andrej Babiš has reignited the debate about the direction of Czech foreign policy. In his commentary, he criticized the decisions of some Czech politicians to support Taiwan in a way that, according to him, harms the economic and diplomatic interests of the Czech Republic. He was primarily reacting to the controversy surrounding the cancellation of a military transport plane intended to take the President of the Senate to Taiwan.

In his text, Babiš described some actions by Czech officials as "moral posturing" and called for a more pragmatic approach towards both China and Taiwan. According to him, Czech diplomacy should primarily be based on the economic and security interests of the state, rather than political gestures.
