Banks and savings banks provided mortgage loans totaling 40.4 billion crowns in July. Compared to July of last year, this represents an increase of seven percent; however, compared to June, the volume of mortgages decreased by 17 percent. New loans without refinancing fell month-on-month by 16 percent to 30.8 billion crowns. Average interest rates rose to 4.9 percent from 4.79 percent in June. This is according to statistics from the Czech Banking Association (ČBA Hypomonitor).
The Prague Stock Exchange rose for the second consecutive day on Thursday. The PX index increased by 0.43 percent to 2,785.14 points. Shares of the defense company CSG and Austrian financial institutions Erste Bank and insurance company VIG performed well. Komerční banka and Moneta Money Bank lost value.
Wage transparency in the Czech Republic is entering a new phase. According to the current interpretation of existing law, wages in the country are largely transparent at present, as employers must publish wage rates or ranges. The new European directive on pay transparency, which is being implemented, will require mandatory disclosure of wage differences between genders and give employees the right to information about wage scales even before starting employment.
The real estate market in northern Bohemia is experiencing a more significant increase in prices than Prague. Data for July 2026 show that Roudnice nad Labem and Lovosice are increasing in price faster than the capital city, mainly due to significantly better transport links between the region and Prague via the D8 highway and the Prague–Děčín railway line, according to an analysis by the Center for Transport Research.
