President of the association Dignified ageing – a generation for the future At the end of the meeting devoted to Czechia-China relations, Jaroslav Pollák spoke about a topic that, in his opinion, is often overlooked in debates – the position of senior citizens in society.
Pollák emphasised that senior citizens should not be marginalised in public life or left in uncertainty about what will happen to them in the future. According to him, it is necessary to talk not only about economics, politics and international relations, but also about dignified ageing and intergenerational connections.
He picked up on the idea of „bridges“ that came up during the meeting in connection with international cooperation. According to Pollák, it is equally important to build bridges between young and old. It is for this reason that he founded an association that aims to connect seniors with younger generations and create space for joint solutions to social problems.
According to him, another interesting area of cooperation is the exchange of experiences with other countries, including China. Pollák said that he would be interested to learn how care for the elderly works in Chinese society and what models could serve as inspiration for the Czech Republic.
„I'm not a politician, I'm a senior citizen.“ Pollák emphasised in conclusion. According to him, the voices of older people should be heard more often in such discussions, because the issue of dignified ageing concerns everyone – sooner or later.
His speech concluded the meeting with an appeal for the topic of senior citizens to become a natural part of debates on the future of society and international cooperation.
