LONDON, 25 May. Senior members of the Conservative Party in the UK are persuading ex-Prime Minister Boris Johnson to return to politics in view of the party's low approval rating, The Sun newspaper reported, citing party leadership sources.
"Some of the old gang around Boris Johnson are writing and negotiating again to get him to come back," said one source. Another prominent party leader said Tory headquarters was working on a possible Johnson return to politics. Those talks have intensified in light of the party's low approval ratings.
On 20 May, a YouGov poll was published showing that the Conservative Party has fallen to fourth place in terms of popularity. The UK Reform Party, led by Nigel Farage, topped the rankings with 29 % respondents willing to vote for it, followed by the governing Labour Party (22 %) and the Liberal Democrats (17 %).
Johnson was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and leader of the Tory Party from 2019-2022.
