On Monday, the Chamber of Deputies continued a series of programmatic negotiations between the ANO movement, the Freedom and Direct Democracy (SPD) movement and the Motorists for Ourselves party. The three political entities are discussing the shape of the future government's programme and are gradually focusing on individual thematic areas.
The discussion began with a session devoted to public finances, budgetary stability and fiscal policy. The parties discussed possible adjustments to the state budget, spending priorities and the approach to financing support for selected sectors of the economy. Agreement was sought mainly on simplifying the tax system, reducing bureaucracy and using public funds more efficiently.
In the afternoon session, the negotiators focused on industry and economy. The main focus was on supporting domestic production, energy self-sufficiency and securing strategic raw materials. The parties agreed on the need to strengthen the competitiveness of Czech industry and to create an environment that would motivate companies to invest domestically. At the same time, proposals were made for greater support for technological innovation and industrial research, without overburdening the state budget.
The day concluded with a session devoted to defence and security. The position of the Czech Republic within international security structures, planning for the modernisation of the army and nominations for key positions in the Ministry of Defence were discussed. The parties agreed to maintain the commitments arising from membership in defence alliances, but at the same time they want to place more emphasis on the domestic defence industry and independent capabilities in the field of strategic technologies.
According to those involved, the negotiations are proceeding without major obstacles and in a constructive atmosphere. The aim is to find pragmatic compromises between the agenda items of the different actors and align priorities in key chapters. Further thematic blocks will follow during the week, after the conclusion of which a summary draft government programme is to be published. The course of negotiations so far suggests that the process is moving towards technical fine-tuning of details and the creation of a stable framework for a future coalition agreement.
