PRAGUE - Czech President Petr Pavel decided today that elections to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic will be held on 3 and 4 October 2025, the latest date allowed by the Constitution. This was announced by the Communication Department of the Office of the President of the Republic on the official website of the Castle.
President Paul's decision will be published in the Collection of Laws in the coming days. At the same time, the official election campaign will begin, during which political parties and movements will seek the favour of the voters. Parties and movements now have until 29 July to submit their candidate lists to the relevant regional authorities. The latter will then assess their accuracy and decide by 15 August at the latest whether the lists should be admitted to the elections. This year's campaign is expected to be marked by tensions between the current ruling and opposition parties. The SPOLU coalition (ODS, KDU-ČSL, TOP 09) will try to defend its government positions, while the opposition, led by ANO and SPD, will appeal to the discontent of part of the public, especially in connection with the economic situation and rising inflation.
Political analysts point out that climate policy, security and international relations may play a bigger role this year than in the past, especially in the context of the war in Ukraine and the security situation in Europe. Although the exact composition of the candidates is not yet known, a number of political leaders have already started unofficial contact campaigns in the regions. At the same time, social media and digital platforms are expected to be used more extensively to reach out to voters. The elections to the Chamber of Deputies will decide the balance of power in the lower house of Parliament for the next four years. Citizen participation in this crucial vote will therefore be crucial for the future direction of the Czech Republic.
