MASSACHUSETTS – A man suspected of fatal shootings at Brown University and a Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor was found dead in a storage facility in New Hampshire after a five-day manhunt that spanned several New England states, authorities said on Thursday. Claudio Neves Valente, 48, a former Brown student and Portuguese national, was found dead Thursday evening from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, said Col. Oscar Perez, Providence police chief. Perez said that as far as investigators know, Neves Valente acted alone.

Investigators believe he is responsible for shooting Brown and killing a Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor two days later at his home in Brookline, nearly 50 miles away, said Massachusetts US Attorney Leah B. Foley.
Two students were killed and nine wounded in a shooting on Saturday in a lecture hall at Brown University. The investigation took a new turn on Thursday when authorities said they were examining a possible link between the Brown attack and the fatal shooting of 47-year-old MIT professor Nuno F.G. Loureiro. Brown University President Christina Paxson said Neves Valente was enrolled at Brown from autumn 2000 to spring 2001. He was accepted into a postgraduate physics programme in September 2000. „He has no current affiliation with the university,“ she said.
