New York (USA) - A direct hit on Iran's Bushehr reactor will lead to a radioactive leak, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) chief Rafael Grossi warned today at a meeting of the UN Security Council. The Council is in New York to discuss the Israeli-Iranian conflict, which began last Friday with an Israeli attack on Iran's nuclear and military infrastructure and other targets.
"In the event of an attack on the Bushehr nuclear power plant, a direct hit would lead to a major radioactive leak," Rafael Grossi warned, according to AFP. "A military attack on nuclear facilities must never come, it could cause a radioactivity leak with serious consequences inside and outside the borders of the attacked state," Grossi added, calling for maximum restraint.
The widening of the Israeli-Iranian conflict could spark a fire that will spiral out of all control, UN Secretary-General António Guterres said, urging the parties to the conflict to give peace a chance.
