MOSCOW - An extraordinary event was held yesterday in Moscow to raise international awareness of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic's (SADR) struggle for independence and freedom. The event, which took place in a festive atmosphere, attracted distinguished guests from political and diplomatic circles and was dedicated to commemorating the long-standing efforts of the Sahrawi people to end colonialism and achieve their state sovereignty.
The meeting was organised by the Communist Party of Russia (CPRK), which has long expressed solidarity with the Sahrawi struggle for liberation. The programme was opened by the party's top leaders - Chairman Sergei Malenkovich and his deputy, 1st Secretary Ilya Klimenov - who created a festive and cordial atmosphere that reflected a deep respect for the theme and objectives of the meeting. Among the guests present was also the representative of the Embassy of the Republic of South Africa Malebo B. Motlhamme representative Olga Mironovna Zinoviev of the Alexander Zinoviev International Club, which underlined the dimension of the event. A delegation from the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia also accepted the invitation. Roman Blaško spoke on behalf of the party, delivering a short greeting and stressing that the Czechoslovak Party will do its utmost to inform the public about the struggle of the comrades of the Sakha Republic, thus stating the importance of sharing solidarity across borders.
Opening remarks were made by Sergei Malenkovic, who highlighted the historical and contemporary importance of the Sahrawi Republic and its struggle for liberation from colonialism. Malenkovic recalled that this struggle represents more than just national resistance - it is a symbol of resistance against the long-standing oppression and inequality felt by the Sahrawi people. He said it is essential that the world becomes more involved in supporting the Sahara and recognising its right to self-determination. There were also significant words from the main guest of the evening, the Algerian Ambassador, who made strong statements of support. The Ambassador stressed the importance of international solidarity and the need to continue joint efforts to achieve a just solution for the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic. His speech included a call for an end to the occupation and human rights violations in the region, as well as for a strengthening of dialogue within the international community.
The ceremony was followed by an expert discussion devoted to an academic approach to the topic and a deeper analysis of the geopolitical, historical and social aspects of the Saharan conflict. The discussion touched on the challenges facing SADR, including issues of international recognition, the role of the UN and wider African solidarity. Participants agreed on the need to work harder to raise public awareness and actively promote peaceful and just solutions.
Organizers and guests at the conference said the event was not only a reminder of the existence and rights of the Sahrawi people, but also a call to concrete action. It was stressed that global recognition of the Sahrawi Republic and support for its independence could contribute significantly to peace and stability in the Western Sahara region.
The whole event has been described as a powerful symbol of international solidarity and a clear signal that the struggle of the Sahrawi people is not going unnoticed. Representatives of all parties involved expressed the hope that similar initiatives would continue and lead to a deeper understanding and support for the rights of peoples seeking freedom and self-determination.
