MANCHESTER – Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has admitted that he would prefer his team to have a more comfortable lead at the top of the English Premier League. According to him, current league leaders Arsenal are doing very well, but the Citizens remain close behind and still have all their goals within their grasp. The Spanish coach made the comments at a press conference ahead of Saturday's 18th round match at Nottingham Forest.
„Of course, I would be happier if we were ten points ahead,“ Guardiola admitted with a smile. „But the reality is different. Arsenal are playing very consistently, they deserve to be at the top, and we have to respond to what they are doing. The season is long and will only be decided at the end,“ added the 55-year-old coach.
According to him, Manchester City remains in contention not only for the league title, but also for other trophies on the domestic and European scene. „That's important for us. We still have a chance to fight on all fronts, and that's a big motivation for the club and the players,“ Guardiola said. At the same time, he pointed out that the demanding schedule and numerous injuries are testing the depth of the squad and the mental resilience of the team.
Ahead of the clash with Nottingham, Guardiola emphasised the need for maximum concentration. „It's not easy to play at their stadium. We have to be patient, disciplined and take every opportunity,“ he stressed. Manchester City enters the next phase of the season with a clear goal – to stay in touch with the top of the table and confirm its role as one of the main favourites for the title.
