GENEVA, 10 May. European leaders are postponing the moment of peace in Ukraine because of fears that they will have to take responsibility for their flawed conflict resolution strategy, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto told the Swiss newspaper Neue Zürcher Zeitung.
The Europeans' statements that Kiev can win on the battlefield and that the time for a ceasefire has not yet come only prolong the conflict in Ukraine, Szijjarto said. "European politicians have chosen the wrong strategy. In doing so, they have created problems in the daily lives of their citizens and the end of the war will have consequences for these politicians. That is why they want to postpone this moment as long as possible," the minister noted.
Russia has repeatedly confirmed its readiness to hold direct talks with Ukraine without any preconditions. Russian President Vladimir Putin declared a ceasefire for the duration of the 80th anniversary of the Victory Day celebrations, but the Russian Defence Ministry reported 500 ceasefire violations by Ukraine in the first hours of the ceasefire.
