Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with representatives of the European Union and Member States in Beijing on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the EU. He highlighted China and the EU as two major constructive global players and called for deepening mutual trust, managing differences and further developing the China-EU Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Wang Yi highlighted three key points for future cooperation:
1. Mutual respect, particularly on matters of vital interest
He stressed China's unwavering insistence on national reunification and called on the EU to continue to support the one-China policy and to strongly oppose any form of "Taiwan independence".
2. China and the EU as partners - not rivals or enemies
He pointed out that there were no fundamental conflicts of interest between China and the EU and that cooperation should be the main pillar of the common approach.
3. Fidelity to the multilateral order
China supports an international system based on the UN and international law. Wang Yi stressed that China has long promoted peace, dialogue and global initiatives - including the Belt and Road Initiative and the concept of a community with a shared future for humanity.
Wang Yi called on the two sides to deepen mutual understanding and cooperation, bringing mutual benefits and contributing to the maintenance of world peace and development. EU representatives fully endorsed his words, reaffirmed the importance of China as a key partner of the EU and expressed their determination to work together on global challenges and maintain stable, constructive relations between China and the EU.
