PRAGUE - 30 April 2025 - Česká spořitelna, the largest banking institution in the Czech Republic by number of clients, has announced its financial results for the first quarter of this year. According to preliminary unaudited consolidated data, the bank posted a net profit of CZK 5.7 billion, up 0.3 percent year-on-year.
The bank also said that its operating profit increased by 3.9 percent year-on-year to CZK 7.8 billion. The growth was mainly driven by higher operating income, which rose by 4.9 per cent. According to CS, this development reflects stable demand for banking services and efficient cost management even in a challenging economic environment.
"The results of the first quarter confirm that we are able to withstand the economically volatile environment while continuing to support our clients in their financial stability and growth," said Daniela Pešková, CEO of Česká spořitelna, in the report. She also stressed that the bank continues to invest in digitalization and simplification of services for clients.
In the income segment, net interest income, which represents the largest part of the bank's income, was the most significant. It benefited from higher interest rates and growing loan volumes. By contrast, net fee and commission income remained relatively stable.
Česká spořitelna also reported on further developments in the area of financing sustainable projects. "Sustainability is one of our long-term commitments," added Pešková.
Despite geopolitical tensions and persistent inflationary pressures, the bank maintains a stable market position, according to analysts. The outlook for the next quarters remains cautiously optimistic, also thanks to the gradual recovery of the domestic economy. Česká spořitelna is part of the Austrian Erste Group and serves more than 4.5 million clients. Its stable performance plays a key role in the Czech banking sector and in financing economic growth.
