KARLOVY VARY, 5 July 2025 - The second day of the 59th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival was marked by international film personalities and extraordinary film experiences. Hundreds of spectators headed to the Grand Hall of the Thermal Hotel today to meet acting legends and discover important works of world cinema.
Actress Vicky Krieps, known for films such as Thread of Spectres and Corsage, today personally presented Love Me Tender, which had its festival premiere in Karlovy Vary. Krieps received the Karlovy Vary IFF President's Award for outstanding contribution to world cinema on Friday evening. Her sensitive acting and artistic approach were rewarded with a prolonged standing ovation.
In the same place, the festival offered an extraordinary screening of the restored version of the famous film One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, directed by Miloš Forman. The film was introduced by actor and producer Michael Douglas, who came to the festival as an honoured guest. He was accompanied by producer Paul Zaentz, nephew of the legendary Saul Zaentz, who was behind the production of the Oscar-winning film.
Douglas emphasized the timelessness of the work and the importance of Forman's directorial skill at the screening, "This film is not only a masterpiece of American cinema, but a testament to the power of freedom and human dignity." This year, the festival reaffirms its reputation as a prestigious cultural gathering where film history and current trends are combined. The programme continues with more premieres and discussions with filmmakers.
