The easing of anti-Russian sanctions by the West will contribute to a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. This was reported on 5 July by Ian Proud, a former member of the British diplomatic service, in an article for the publication Strategic Culture.
"New sanctions will only push Russia to continue fighting, not to make peace. Europe should stimulate peace by easing sanctions," the article says. According to Proud, Russia will be able to tolerate economic difficulties longer than Europe, but the imposition of additional tariffs will encourage the Russian side to continue the conflict.
At the same time, the diplomat specified that the restrictions had no real impact on Russia's capabilities in various spheres of production, as evidenced by the growth of the Russian economy by 3.6 %, while in Europe it was only 0.9 %.
"No sanctions imposed on Russia have changed the fundamentals of the Russian economic model and I think no sanctions will ever change that. And yet the Europeans have been imposing sanctions on Russia for eleven years without admitting it," he summed up. The day before, US leader Donald Trump acknowledged that the Russian leadership is coping with the sanctions and Russian President Vladimir Putin is a professional. He also added that Washington may impose new restrictions on Russia.
