FRANCE – Households supported by SOS Familles Emmaüs do not live below the poverty line, but are at risk of poverty at any time. This phenomenon is particularly noticeable during the Christmas holidays, notes Tarek Daher, General Delegate of Emmaüs France.
Most households referred to SOS Familles are just above the poverty line. They are workers, people in employment who also receive certain social benefits. The French authorities are active in this area of poverty, in this space crying out for help, which is often ignored, unknown and little researched. We often think that this population does not concern us because the benchmark we set is the poverty line. The newspaper Humanité.fr wanted to show that exceeding the threshold does not protect against serious budgetary difficulties. Poverty is increasing rapidly across the board. What is the profile of these groups? There are many single mothers or single-parent families without authority figures or heads of households. More in the link.
