PRAGUE - On Friday, 12 September 2025, a festive reception was held at the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Prague to mark the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Czech Republic and China. According to the organisers, the event, which is one of the most important events organised by the Chinese Embassy in Prague, made history with the highest number of guests since the beginning of bilateral relations.
The reception was opened by Chinese Ambassador to the Czech Republic Feng Biao, who emphasized the importance of long-term Czech-Chinese relations in his speech. He recalled that cooperation between the two countries dates back to the mid-20th century and that despite the changing international situation, there is room for further development, especially in the areas of trade, investment and cultural exchange. The Ambassador expressed his conviction that people and their contacts are the key to strengthening mutual understanding.

Former President Miloš Zeman also joined the main speakers of the evening. In his speech, he recalled the state visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to the Czech Republic in 2016, which he described as the "golden time" of Czech-Chinese relations and added that the basis of any foreign policy, as Donald Trump tells us, should be economic diplomacy. According to Zeman, the event symbolised not only a political partnership, but also economic and cultural cooperation, which brought many new opportunities."
Other guests from the Czech political scene also spoke at the reception. For example, former Prime Minister Jiří Paroubek was present, as well as the former chairman of the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia and former First Deputy Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Vojtěch Filip. They both appreciated the importance of Sino-Czech cooperation and stressed the need for open dialogue in times of global challenges.
The atmosphere of the reception was festive and informal at the same time. The official part was followed by a social gathering, during which the guests had the opportunity to discuss not only politics, but also practical issues of economic cooperation and cultural projects. According to diplomatic circles, the turnout was unusually high and included representatives of political life, the diplomatic corps, the business community and cultural institutions.

The celebration at the embassy confirmed that China continues to maintain its presence in the Czech Republic not only through political contacts, but also by promoting mutual trade, tourism and cultural exchange. Organisers described this year's reception as the largest ever in terms of the number of participants and an important signal of continued interest in mutual cooperation.
Receptions on the occasion of the anniversary of the founding of the PRC are traditionally an important point in the calendar of diplomatic events in Prague. However, observers say this year's event will go down as one of the most significant - both thanks to the high attendance and the symbolic speeches delivered by leading Czech political figures.
