Chinese President Xi Jinping on Saturday urged Jilin province to strictly implement the Communist Party of China's (CPC) strategy for the full revitalization of northeast China and strengthen its role in the country's modernization.
Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks after a working meeting in Changchun, capital of Jilin province.
He stressed that Jilin must focus its strategy on quality development, industrial upgrading and promoting new productive forces. He also called for effective use of technological innovation and deeper reform of state-owned enterprises.
The private sector also plays an important role, he said. Jilin should create a business environment that is market-oriented, legally stable and internationally competitive.
Xi also supported the development of modern agriculture, where emphasis should be placed on technological innovation, organic production and building quality brands.
Northeast China, including Heilongjiang, Jilin and Liaoning provinces, has long been a key industrial and agricultural area. Its revitalisation is a key strategy for the country's economic development.
As a multi-ethnic province, Jilin should promote a unified national identity and strengthen inter-ethnic relations. Xi also called for measures to maintain stability and address key risks.
He stressed that quality development must be supported by the fight against corruption and unnecessary bureaucracy.
Cai Qi, a member of the Politburo Standing Committee and Director of the General Office of the Communist Party of China, also attended the working session.
