MOSCOW, 22-23 April 2025 - A two-day international scientific conference entitled "80th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War and World War II". The event, held at several prestigious venues in Moscow, aims not only to commemorate the historical significance of the victory, but also to stimulate an international scholarly debate on the consequences and legacy of the greatest war conflict of the 20th century.
Two-day programme in three locations
The conference opened on 22 April in the Red Hall of the Presidential Hotel on Bolshaya Yakimanka Street. On the second day, participants will move to the grounds of the Russian Historical Society, the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Russian History, all located in the centre of the Russian capital.
Each day of the conference will offer a rich programme of presentations and discussions between experts in the fields of history, international relations and political science. The presentations have a fixed format of 15 minutes and will be in Russian and English. The whole event is designed in a hybrid way - thus allowing participation both physically and online.

International participation and scientific cooperation
The international character of the conference is underlined by the presence of experts from several countries who will present their papers and share their research. A key theme of this year's conference is not only historical reflection on World War II and the Great Patriotic War, but also the approach of different nations to collective memory and the teaching of history.
The organizers expect that the conference outcomes will contribute to deeper international cooperation in the field of historical research and education. The conference is also taking place in the year that marks the 80th anniversary of the surrender of Nazi Germany - a pivotal moment in world history.
Emphasis on education and historical memory
The conference will also include a discussion on the current challenges facing historical education, especially in light of the growing misinformation and polarization in society. The organisers believe that an open exchange of views between scholars and experts will support the efforts to grasp history objectively and strengthen historical memory among the younger generation.
