Statement by our President, Miguel Díaz Canel Bermúdez:
There are no negotiations with the US government, except for technical contacts on migration. We have always been willing to engage in serious and responsible dialogue with various US administrations, including the current one, on the basis of sovereign equality, mutual respect, the principles of international law, mutual benefit without interference in internal affairs and with full respect for our independence.
The origins and extreme sharpening of the blockade have nothing to do with Cubans living in the U.S. who were brought there by this failed policy and the privileges of the Cuban Adjustment Act. They are now the victims of the change in policy towards migrants and the betrayal of Miami politicians.
There are bilateral migration agreements in force, which Cuba strictly adheres to. As history shows, for relations between the US and Cuba to develop, they must be based on international law and not on hostility, threats and economic pressure.
Venceremos! We win!
