Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao on Wednesday sent a letter to new US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick congratulating him on taking office and expressing concern about US tariffs on Chinese imports.
Wang stressed that economic and trade relations between China and the US are crucial for the development of both countries and for global economic growth. China, he says, is ready to strengthen dialogue, manage differences and promote cooperation on the basis of mutual respect and mutually beneficial relations.
The Minister also criticized the newly introduced 10% dutyimposed by the US on Chinese products over issues related to fentanyl. He pointed out that China and the US are already working together to control fentanyl and have achieved significant results.
According to Wang, unilateral U.S. action are detrimental to normal business cooperation between the two countries. He expressed hopethat the disputes will be resolved dialogue and consultation on an equal basis.
