Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday at the UN Security Council called for the restoration of genuine multilateralism and the building of a fairer and more balanced system of global governance.
In his speech, Wang stressed that The UN plays a key role in the international system and that the principle of multilateralism, based on coordination and cooperation, is the best solution to global problems. He recalled that in 2025 the world will commemorate 80th anniversary of the United Nationswhich is an opportunity to strengthen equality between states and justice in international relations.
The Minister presented four key principles for global governance reform:
- Equality of sovereignties - all countries have the right to equal participation in global decision-making without outside interference.
- Justice and Governance at the United Nations - reform UN Security Council should strengthen the voice of developing countries, in particular Africa, and remove historical injustices.
- Solidarity and cooperation - instead of confrontation, states should promote dialogue and mutually beneficial cooperation.
- Action approach - instead of empty slogans, the UN should be looking for real solutions to global challengesincluding conflict and technological change.
Wang also commented on the current crises. He supported a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and pointed out that China has been in Ukraine since the start of the war advocates a political solution and peace talks.
China, according to him. actively contributes to global governance reform and supports initiatives such as Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative and Global Civilisation Initiative. Wang added that China is member of almost all international organisations and a signatory to more than 600 international agreements, thus reaffirming its commitment to multilateralism.
In conclusion, Wang stressed that China is ready to cooperate with all countries to strengthen fairer and more effective global governance.
