China is ready to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation with the Czech Republic if the Czech side respects its key interests, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said during a meeting with his Czech counterpart Jan Lipavsky on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference on Saturday.
Wang recalled a long history of diplomatic relations between the two countries, but warned that recent years have brought a cooling of relationswhich China does not want. He stressed that there is no agreement between the Czech Republic and China there are no major geopolitical disputes, which is why he believes it is in the interest of both countries to improve relations.
However, according to Wang Yi, the condition is Respect for the One China Principlewhich is a key pillar of the relationship. On this basis, China is willing to extend cooperation in various areas and restore trust between the two countries.
Jan Lipavsky reminded that Last year marked the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations and that during the visit Xi Jinping in the Czech Republic in 2016 has been established strategic partnership. He stressed that Dialogue and cooperation between the Czech Republic and China and between the EU and China are key at a time of rising trade tensions.
Lipavsky also confirmed that the Czech government recognizes the one-China policy and does not support Taiwan's independence. He expressed his willingness to cooperate with China on the development of political and economic relations.
The two ministers also addressed the issues of Sino-European relations and the situation in Ukraine.
